Default Steering wheel remote + Aftermarket stereo

The stock stereo comes w/ a steering wheel remote (volume, nxt track/station) Does anyone know if/how to hook that up w/ an aftermarket stereo? One of the reasons I'm hesistating on getting a new stereo is because of that. (Also because the headunit I have is the indash 6-cd changer)

anyone? tnx

it won't work, but i've heard about people making some mods to make it compatable with Alpine HU's. i have no idea how, but it's been done.

most radio manufacturers offer wheel remotes now, so getting one that works shouldn't be too hard.

my friend's civic hatch has his remote that came with Aftermarket HU mounted on his steering wheel, cut out the H i think, and then he removed the sensor, and relocated it where the doom light is, facing down towards the HU. pretty sick lil mod.

If your headunit supports a remote control you can get a device that will make the steering wheel controls work. It costs about $80 USD last I checked though. What you do is connect the device to the controls and have it discreetly point at the HU (usually by running a wire up, near the top of the windshield, pointing down). Then you program the buttons to do anything you want. It supports many buttons, so you can go to Radio Shack, add buttons and get more usability. Of course I forget the name of the product, but there's at least two different ones out there that do the same thing.
