Would a CAI do to fuel efficiency? I know I went from 24 mpg to a wopping 27-29 mpg, that is with a straight 2.5" piping, no cat. converter either?

and yea, Knight2dro hit it right on the spots, howstuffworks.com basically explain everything basics about car with some cool pics as well.

In all seriousness, just avoid romping on the gas... I get about 35MPG in my Civic when I romp on it, and over 40MPG if I'm easy on the car...

Exhaust is also the gases being exspelled from the engine. Hot gas exiting the engine flows through the exhaust manifold (header), through the catalitic converter, and then exits out the muffler. The faster the flow of the exhaust gases the better performance you will get out of you engine. Bigger piping doesnt neccessarily mean faster flow so deciding the right size exhaust for your engine is very important. :fawk:

I am completely new to this as well, so I am glad this was brought up. So what you are saying is that I should keep my stock piping and just get a comptech axel back? I have a V6 and thought of replacing the entire exhaust system. Would this not be recommended?
