bypass valve or no bypass. i am having a hard time choosing... i don't want to lose any possible gain in horsepower, but i also don't want to hydrolock my engine... damn the choices. what do you guys suggest? one of the guys at the shop said he has had his in his car for 4 years and no bypass valve and has had no problems. :nervous:

 

you raly don't need it. I asked this guythat works at a shop and he has had a cold air for about the same amount a time and see no need for it. And he has ran through many of deep ass puddles. But if you really think it might happen, go for it. I don't think there will be a noticable different in hp but he ssiad you would lose 1-2hp( I think)

 

unless you plan on driving in a lake there' really no need for it.

i'll say get one... it's better to spend $40 on a bypass valve than to spend $3000 on a new engine.. do the mat, it's worth it...

btw, power loss is not noticable...i'll say prob <1 hp..

 

I'm not using one... AEM themselves claims that unless you submerge the filter, you will have no problems... just keep the stone shield on your wheelwell.

here's someone who's engine got fawked up, rod punched a hole in the block. I wasn't driving, my bro was. cost me 1500 to replace the engine, luckily insurance covered some. HOWEVER!!!!, i did NOT have the fender lining in place, which is why it got hydrolocked. So if you have a fender lining in place, then you won't really hafta worry. But make sure you pay attention to that damned fender lining, cuz when u install that cai, and you go through the fender lining, chances are some of those clips are gonna break, and chances are you're gonna be lazy and say ehh..couple clips here and there won't matter. Then one day it's gonna rip off, and once again you'll be lazy, and say..ehhh....it's not raining yet...no worries. At least das how i was, and when it finally started raining, i was away at school, and my bro was driving my car for awhile...and whaddaya know..i totally forgot bout the fender lining, and he drove through an unavoidable puddle. So just a few words of caution, you will be fine without a bypass, but make sure you take the precautions.

 

if you're gonna get a bypass, than what's the point of a cai, might as well get a short ram, save more money for the same power
