Default '99 Accord Ex Coupe (4-cyl) Ignition Problem

Recently I've been having trouble with the ignition.

First problem is turning the car on. It seems like you have to hold it a half second longer to start it. I'm the only one who can get my car started at the moment.

Second problem. Once in a while, it stalls while driving, like if I turned off the ignition. (Gauges fall, lights go off, radio turnts off). I can start it back up again but I'm afraid it'll happen on a curve and I won't have control of my car for that crucial split second.

I looked around and there seems to be a recall on 98-02 ignitions.

But that was in 02 and it's 2010 right now....

Wondering if Honda would replace my ignition for free? If not then how do I go about fixing it?

Call a Honda dealer with the VIN and they'll be able to fix the ignition switch which is covered under the recall. One of the main reasons for the recall was because cars were stalling and shutting off when driving. It doesn't matter when the recall was, if it hasn't been fixed, they should be able to fix the car for you without charge.

Went to the dealer and they said that the part had already been replaced on my car...

They want 300 for them to replace it.

I'm assuming it's a lot cheaper if I can get my mechanic cousin to do it...

Get in touch with Honda and tell them that you're having the same issue all over again even though the dealer claims that the part has been replaced. You should be able to have the part replaced for free. Call another dealer and give them your VIN number and see if it truly has been replaced or not. Even if it has, explain to them you're having same issues and if they would cover the replacement again.

Bite the bullet and get it fixed right the first time at the dealership. I wouldn't take an issue like this to some backyard mechanic or worse yet, your cousin.

Do you know how to change an ignition switch? It isn't really that hard. Just remove the ignition cover, and loosen the bolt that holds the ignition. There will be some wires and removes those too. Anyways.
