Default $40 EACH to mount and balance 18s!?!?

Does this sound right to anyone? I got quoted $20-30 each from another place. But isn't $40 each a bit ridiculous!?!

i've gotten a quote like that before... just look around for some smaller, personally owned tire shop. one shop in LA mounted and balanced my tires for $20

when i had my 15s, i had this deal from wal mart... lifetime free mounting, balance, and rotation. h:

Definitely find another shop, I have 18's also, and it cost me $40 bucks to mount, balance, and rotate. Just depends on where u go.

wow.. thats really cheap. most places in LA charge 10-12/wheel for mount and balance. 15-20 if u have "specialty" wheels (ie super low-pro or chrome/special finishes)

Yeah that seems really high....

I wouldn't pay more than $70-75 for all 4 and that's even a bit on the high side.

The thing is - I called around, obviosuly - and all the shops around here are hick run. All but this one said they've never done 18s - and couldn't garontee anything.

I plan on trying one place that'll do all 4 for ~$80 - but they've only done 17s before.

The place that told me $40 EACH said they just got a $8000 machine to mount and balance BIG rims like what I have - AND it has NO metal contact with the wheels or whatever is and is really good - but I don't really care other than it's just the standard mounting and balancing - ya know?

I'll keep my appt. with the for Friday - since the tires aren't in until Wed = I'll take the set to the $80- place to see if they are successful with mounting them up.

Damn local back-country folk!

BTW - it take at LEASTR twice as long to balance 18s than it does 15 or 16s. Sometimes 4 times as long, BOTH places told me. So that's why the cost is so different for diferent size wheels. Can anyone else tell me what they had their 18s mounted an balanced for? Anyone!?!
