Default Engine Over-heating

Im not quiet sure what is going on. So the other day I was driving in pretty crappy weather so I turn on my rear-defroster and front. They dont do anything for about 10 min. So then my needle in my gauge starts to shoot up on the engine temp. As I gain speed it stays even but when I slow down it gets higher and higher. Couple of days later I try to use my air-conditing wont work and comes out very hot. And now my gauge temp. keeps shooting up all the time, I was in the mcdonalds line and it was in the red . But I got to 40 and it went down some. So I took it to honda to ask about the air conditining and they want like 100-200 bucks to just look at the aircondioting! I dident ask about the motor. But about 4 months the engine did the same thing. I took to Specialized Honda Automotive and they guy said it was fine? Dunno. Anybody have any idea whats going on?

Jon

Sounds to me like you have an overheating problem:dunno: First things to do when overheating, as far as repairs or maintenance, is check the coolant level, check for cracks/holes in radiator, flush cooling system, replace thermostat, refill w/fresh coolant/water mix. Make sure you don't have any oil in ur coolant and vice versa, that could be a problem.

sounds to me like two seperate problems. one is the AC refrigerant level, and the other is the coolant level. ive gone thru 3 (count em'- three) radiators in the past two years and had the same symptoms each time. another thing to check is the assorted hoses throughout the engine compartment for leaks. even a pinhole can leak enough over time to create an overheating problem. if you have a rusty color to your antifreeze (and its not that GM red coolant (which is useless and corrodes your system)) and it has a foamy look to it, then you have a blown head gasket, as oil is getting into the coolant system. having oil in your antifreeze has an adverse affect on the coolants ability to do its job- which is to cool the engine (duh ;-) ).

also... if oil can get in your water... that means water can get in your oil and that's bad news

I'll bet that it's your thermostat. If your coolant is fine,... then replace the thermostat. Everytime I've had overheating problems it's been becuase of a faulty thermostat.

I was just going to say that. That's why he's having problems with his heat, air conditioning and engine temperatures. Check the obvious like coolant first, then check the thermostat.

I've never overheated.

The same exact thing happened to me last summer man. I was waiting in line at Wendys and the temp shot up to red, then went down as I drove home. We had no idea what was going on so we took it to a local shop. It was a simple fix that we didn't think of....

Check the fuses for your cooling fans....mine were blown so the temp shot up when idling. This happened like 2 weeks after I got my system installed, and the owner of the shop said he had seen this happen before. Not just in Hondas, but in any car the whole electrical system could be effected by such a sudden change (especially my 2 12's before I had a capacitor).

Anyway check it out that could be the problem.

if it only gets hot while idling, the fan probably isnt kicking in. you really need it to cool your car when its idling. it may also explain why ur a/c isnt cold. theres another fan to draw air thru the a/c condensor thats probably out too.
