Will this screw up your engine if you drive in 3rd gear on the highway? or cruise on 3rd gear.? or it will just consume more gas?

Thanks! I have been driving 300 miles this past weekend on 3rd gear ( cruise and non cruise) and didn't even realize it until the very end of the trip. Always mistaken D4 to D3. The shifting is too soft I think. Anyone having same problem?
But D2 will screw up your gearbox and engine? but not d3?

shifting 1-2-3-4 will screw up the transmission. Going in second won't do anything, but it's pretty stupid. Same with third.

Didn't you notice that you were cruising at like 3,500 RPM's on the highway? Didn't you find that odd?

 

Didn't even notice. Was concentrating too much on the music and the road. Feel kinda dumb ..lol

i think he means he was putting the shifter in D3 and not D4... not shifting up 1-2-3-4.

lol, I did the same thing when I first got my old AV6. I cruised for like 5 mins at 80 with my music fairly loud but realized it was in third because the throttle response was way too good there isn't a detente between D4 and D3, and I like it that way. After a while, you get used to looking on the gearshift display on the dash by fuel gauge to see where you are
