Default exhaust citation

Can you still get cited for modified exhaust if you have an aftermarket muffler, even if it's as quiet as stock? Is just having a non stock muffler grounds for getting a citation?

Its all in how you present it.

If you say its an aftermarket exhaust then yes they can get you for modified exhaust. If however you say that it is a replacement exhaust then theres not too much really they can say..I always say replacement exhaust and if they ticket you for it take in your DEQ report as well as have them test it on the db meter for noise violation.

No. When Joe Blow's muffler rusts out on his x brand car, he goes to a muffler shop, and they sure don't use OEM replacements.

I think you would only get cited if it was excessively loud.

ok. I hope this is true cause I changed out my glasspack for a magnaflow turbo muffler and it's a hell of alot quieter, even w/o the silencer. With the silencer on, it's damn near silent. I like the way it looks w/o the silencer, but less likely to get bothered w/silencer in.

I've had no problems with cops so far on exhaust. I just take it easy on acceleration and also I don't push my car so its loud. Besides with gas prices over $2 I drive alot slower to save gas. I get 26 miles-30 miles per gallon.

If you get cited, you can fight it now. Like if a cop thinks your exhaust is too loud, you can go to a smog place and they can do a decibal rating on the exhaust and if your at or under the legal limit, you can have it dismissed. You can't just go there to request it, you have to actually been cited for it to qualify.

as long as the emission check proved it's okay, then i guess there's no problem. I didn't have any problem with mine, even with the cat removed, it's really loud and gives off a whole lot vibration. I'll put them cat. back on about 1 mo. before my Emission check is due.

Why do you run without a cat anyways? All your doing is polluting your own air that you breath.
