Trouble with my Accord
My accord is falling apart. I started noticing lately that whenever I get it about 55+ mph, the steering gets considerbly shaky.
I just had the front axles replaced, as they decided to wear out.

I am trying to sell the beast for 1500, 2000 if I am lucky. In the meantime, I'd like to figure out what this is.
Any ideas?

Check the Ball joints and possibly the control arms are going bad.
My guess is lower ball joints though.

Check the alignment first. That can be a no-brainer. As the tolerances of the axle loosen upon break-in, something could have been knocked off of wack.
Like 99accord said, it could be a number of things.

Last time I had shaky steering at higher speeds was when one of my tires' bands broke. The steering wheel would start to shake back and forth. Replaced the tire & fixed the trouble. My visual inspection of the tire wasn't good enough - had to have a tire guy look at it.
Could be as simple as your tires needing to be balanced. Wheel barings can cause similiar problems.
Either way, if you sell a car (any car) with 200K on it for more than a grand, I want to meet the sucker you sold it to!

I have a 90 Accord and a year ago I went through this, Midas tried to sell me a rackand pinion for 1300 bucks, so instead I went to my mechanic and he said it was my ball joints or control arm, I changed these two things myself with a good outcome, I wouldnt recomend do yourself unless your good with tools. Anyway what it ended up really being was a simple bolt with washers and spacers that ties the wheel to the (im not sure what it was exactly now! but you can easily see it and it really is simple to replace with a jack, it only cost about 12 at the auto store, and it really worked. THe old one was missing a rubber spacer, and was bent bad, Good luck.
