Default Accord V6 Coupe 6-speed manual

I just noticed that carsdirect-dot-com had dropped the target price from sticker to about $1500 under sticker, or $1000 over invoice. This is about the same as the target price given on edmunds-dot-com.

I thought that the 6-speed was only going to available in limited quantities for the first year. (I had originally planned to wait for the '04s.) So I was wondering if the "limited supply" is because of the limits on the numbers of 6-speeds that can be produced, or is it because most V6 Accord buyers can't or don't want to shift a manual transmission?

Isn't this the same 6-speed manual transmission as on the CL Type S? How are they selling?

BTW, I've been driving a somewhat pricier Eurocar with a manual transmission for the last 5 years. I've accumulated pages and pages and more pages of repair invoices on the car. Meanwhile, my wife bought a Honda and the total repairs have been brake pads and 2 brake lightbulbs! Never again.

Welcome to H-A.Net

The 6 speed is not going to be hard to find for MSRP or under. Dealerships trying to sell it for over sticker are stupid. The 6 speed on the Accord is very similiar to the CL's, but not exact. As Samson said, the entire CL line is selling poorly...a CL-S 6 speed can be had for close to invoice.

Your two theories on the limited production are both correct.

I think the 2nd theory is more likely the reason. How many people would actually buy a manual Accord? It is already hard to find a 4 cylinder with a manual at a Honda dealership.

Let's face it, most average drivers (which are not HAN members, I assure you ) want the convenience of an automatic. And most average Accord drivers prefer automatics over sticks. I really wish AHM offered a 6-speed in the V6 Sedan but I really don't think it will sell well.

One thing is for sure, my next new car WILL be a manual! No more this automagic bullshit! Haha!

They aren't quiet the same. The CL-S has a LSD, while the Accord doesn't have it. I really really wish Honda offered it on the V6 because every magazine test drove the 6-speed CL-S and they all loved how the car handle! Oh well...one step at a time.

Like the others have already stated, the CL isn't selling well. Rumor has that AHM is thinking about killing it in the near future.

Everyone I've talked to has paid MSRP for the 6MT intial coverage units (including me), and I suspect that will be true in the near future. The higher volume dealers: President Award winners, are getting up to 5 6MT's this MY, so if you can wait till next fall you'll have a better chance of getting something close to invoice.

I wouldn't actually care about the demise of the CL, as long as the TL is offered with a manual transmission.

The EX V-6 6-speed Coupe's limited production is more or less testing grounds for American Honda. If they sell well, more will come next year. They don't want to pull another CL Type S.

Love mine. I've been trying to adhere to a self imposed 3K rev limit during break-in, but I'm finding it difficult to do in 1 & 2 cause their so short.

I wouldn't worry too much about break-in bro. All Hondas are run to redline right out of the factory doors on a dynograph to make sure they make the advertised horsepower, plus or minus a few ponies. The tolerances on the engine are EXTREMELY tight.
