OEM vs 3rd party bumpers
Hey everyone,
My insurance company put some 3rd party bumper on my car. The thing cracked when I scraped it on a snow bank when it was really cold out. I want to bite the bullet and pay for a Honda bumper it seems to be made from a better material. My question is if the Honda bumper will be that much better then the 3rd party?
Waddya think?

sounds like the 3rd party bumper was fiberglass or really cheap ureathane which would explain why it cracked. the stock bumpers are ureathane. u have 2 choices either go to the dealer and get the factory bumper (hopefully its in stock and in ur color) or go to the junk yard and get one (but then u might have to paint it)

I found one on ebay pretty cheap. The dealer wants $227.
The guy on e-bar replaced his (probably a mod) and now has his original
bumper for sale. He says it's primer black so I can paint it.
Thanks. No more cheap urethane for me.

i have a funny feeling the bumper u had was fiberglass cuz ureathane (even the cheap stuff) is hard to break. i hit a speed bump (wasnt paying attention) at 40mph and landed hard on my ureathane lip and i only cracked the paint. the lip was fine

I don't know. It looked like urethane, just a thin bumper and it was about 15 degrees out so it was probably brittle from that as well. I know my original bumper was never this easy to crack. I hit a high curb and all it did was scratch the paint. With this thing I hit a hard snowbank while parking 5 mph at the most and the thing had a hole in it. Not just a crack but a hole. I'm trying to get my insurance company to at least paint and install it for me.
crappy, crappy, crappy.
