I am trying to help my roommate woith his 92 accord (2.2 L Automatic) and the problem he has is that the first time he uses the car every morning, it refuses to shift out of first till he hits around 5,500 rpm. This only happens the first time in the morning and not even after a long period of cooling later the same day.

This morning , I thought I'd try something and started in "2" and it shifted normally.

Any ideas on what this problem is?

maybe the linkage is bent otherwise be sure theres enough fluid in there and if there is then flush the trans and pray he doesnt need a new one. good luck.
