Default Angry about HID Problems - PLEASE HELP!

OK - The first mod I performed on my 2003 Accord Coupe i4 was installing Hella HID kit - 7500K.

OK, one light turns out defective, and turns 'yellow' instead of 'brightening up' for the brief warm up.

First question: In cold climate: 30 degress or so F - it take s a second for the lights to 'brighten up' - is this normal?

2nd ?: When it was horribly cold out - like 5-10 degress I'd hear the balasts click to turn on the lights - but ine, or both would be so cold they'd flicker on quick, then turn off. :-( Is this normal?

Long story short - I ordered a repalcement 7500K bulb from MisterJung (I bought my kit on eBay - can't get back in contact with him - my credit card refunded me because of the defectivve bulb .... yada, yada) MisterJung was an arse - and NEVER sent the bulb for 2 months until I filed a Paypal.com compl.aint - and 2 days before he lost his account he sent it out. Whatever.

THEN when I get it, it's a 5500K bulb!!!!!!!!!!!

I'll be getting my refund from him via paypal.com - don't have time for him anymore.

THEN I bought a Bohmen FULL 6000K kit - and just used the bulbs, and did some electrical work to change the connectors - to replace both the bulbs on my car, one of which was defective and really yellow - and it's now ~40 F and it 'brightens up' fast with the new 2 6000K Bohmen bulbs, and the Hella balasts. I'll be selling the Bohmen balasts more than likely on eBay -or e-mail me if you want them.

NOW I have - MAYBE a problem with THESE Bohmen bulbs - because as soon as I turn on hte lights they are a nice BMW X5 like blue ..... and then ...1/2 a second later they go to a very white. That's fine with me - but I liked the blues that I got when I turned on the lights to begin with - and my other good light - while I had that in turned from dim blue, to brighter. These turn from a Blue to a White - but don't seem to be TOO much dimmer.

I am concerned here though.

SORRY for the SUPER long post - but SOMEONE who knows a good deal about HIS systems, etc. - PLEASE respond.

Thanks!

I personally have the Bohmen 6000K HID kit in my car.... The reason is 6000K will NOT be blue, it'll have a hint of it, IF you wanted blue you should've gotten their 7500K kit.

If you've ever done your homework on HID's the higher the K rating, the bluer it is, but because of this you will lose light....the reason why HID's were made.

If you wanted blue, just go back to crapo HID lookalike bulbs.

Bohmen kit works great for me. The color is a little disappointing. I thought 6000K will have more blue in it aswell. But overall great unit.

A great HID is one that gives out the brightest light. 4300K to 5000K is the best color temperature range. Any higher in color temp is a waste of money IMO.

If you want blue headlights and don't care about visibility save your $400 and get blue bulbs from APC.

The problem is'nt the color - it's that once the lights FIRST turn on - they have a hint of blue -and are BRIGHTER than once they 'settle down' - so to speak - and they become - well - almost as yellow as STOCK!

I don't know what the hell the problem can be - but the next weekend home I'll bve sure to be doing a lot of swaping ns testing.

I loved the 7500K the ONE good bulb put out - i just wish the other bulb wasn't defective, and I could actually get a hold of the guy who sold them on eBay!!!

Not to be an ass but sounds to me like you should have done your research more or better before trying to jump on the HID bandwagon....

Your HIDs are fine though....they are doing exactly what they are suppose to......they are a bit blue at their warm up period and then will be white like you said......nothing wrong.

If you wanted blue bulbs then you should have gotten a higher K temp but why waste the money ....

Hopefully you didn't buy them just to say you have HIDs....and instead bought them for better visablity and safety.......

Please aim your headlights down lower too so you don't blind everyone.......thanks and good luck

Well the bulbs seem to be working fine. They may appear brighter at first because of the huge amount of power they cause to ignite and the human eye sees blue as being brighter.

I have a 7000K HID kit and really wish i went with a lower temp for brighter lights (not that these arent bright just too blue). I originally ordered a 6000K kit from some HID website i heard good things about but receieved a 9000K violet HID kit instead. I complained but decided to keep them and when i put them in the one bulb did the same as yours and lit up dimly and then went out. It was indeed defective so i sent it back and they sent me a 7000K kit (not the original 6000k i wanted) so i complained but didnt feel like sending them back They are bright and all but you are probably better off with the 6Ks The difference between the 9000k's and the 7000k is huge in terms of light output. Heres a quick pic after warm up to compare to your color

hey can u post pics or send me pics of that bohmen ballasts u have?

I have a 6000K HID kit with Philips bulbs and ballasts, they lgiht up a nice purple on startup and get much brighter to a whitish purple

but I have a defective ballast that clicks, well it did click once in a while and wouldnt light up the bulb, now it doesnt click at all and doesnt light up the bulb anymore, the damn vendor says theres no warranty :madfawk:

So if your ballast would connect to my Philips bulbs I'd be interested in the ballast

My ballast looks like this

the bulbs i got have 2 wires coming out of them with a plug on each, they connect to those 2 plugs on the ballast, then a small plug from the relay connects to the (+) plug hole on the ballast

Make sure you always have that 20amp fuse. Ballast have a faulty power shutdown feature built in. After a while it won't work due to safety reason.

Try www.suvlights.com they might be able to help you out and work something out with you. I recommend them.
