Removing CAT heat shield

I think the vibration/noise i get when my car is in drive and sitting at a traffic light or something is caused by my cat heat shield. will there be any damage if i remove it or what? anyone have any experiences with this?

it'll cause a heat spot inside the car, where ever it's closest to. this may cause the carpeting glue to come undone or nearby wires to melt. if it's loose, just tighten the bolts.
