Accord Transmission Failure? knowledgable information needed
Hi everybody
It's been a while since I've been on this site but I recall finding a lot of useful information on here for my problems in the past. So, yet again, here I am. Currently, I am stationed at Camp Taji, Iraq and I'll be home in 2 months or so. My wife and I were looking to puchase a vehicle and have some people helping us look around for something good. Early 2000 model Accords were on our list of interests. It has been brought to my in some of these Hondas. I plan on looking around the net more to find more infomation but if there is any info that can be put out there for me and anyone else that may be considering buying these vehicles, it would be greatly appreciated.
I understand that some of these problems are with the torque converters. So if this is the problem and the only problem it wouldn't effect the manual trannys. Are there problems with the manuals as well?
Also some of the mid-sized Acuras are also on the list. Were any of the problems bleeding over into the Acura models as well?
Does anyone know which Honda vehicles are experiencing problems like this so that we don't invest our money into a potential problem vehicle? (specific year(s), trim(s), limited to 2 or 4 door,)
Any other problems well know to be notorious with Honda models such as Prelude, Accord, Acura (TL,RL, RSX ect ect)? This would be helpful to go ahead and knock them off of our list.
Thank you for your time and information, I get on the net as often as I can so if there are any questions of me I will respond as quickly as I can.

well preludes are great but they burn a little oil and thats just the way they came from the factory. The have the h22s in them. Rsx's are great cars but are notorious for the clutches going out around 80,000 miles. 1 of my friends had their clutches go out around there but other than that they are great. Also have a friend who has a 2001 4 door automatic accord with about 100,000 and nothing bad yet. She has just done oil changes and thats it, runs great. Dont know too much on RL or TL... but those are a big price difference between accords and preludes so it all depends on what you are looking to spend. You can get accords and preludes for under 10k and TL and RL and TSX over 20k. Some rsx's run just under 10k or a little over...depending on type s or not and mileage.
2 of my friends had clutches go out....sorry for the mistake

Stay away from acura's with V6 autos they tend to burn up. Any accord is great. I had to replace my trany on my 4 banger, but it was covered under a used car warranty. Some one tampered with it so it lasted 60 miles after I got it. The other tranny issue is people not using ZF1 fuild. Never do tranny flush always do a refill. I've been beating on my accord sometimes and driving at 90-110 on the highway and her valves the last time only needed 4 adjusted using 5w-30 mobil 1. The last trany fuild change had only a little metal on the magnet plug.
U should consider the Civic too, it´s a good car. Basically the 90s AT Accords have tranny problems. If you want to buy a more sportive car u should try the H22 models or VTIs SIs or the Type-R models; I have a 95 Accord EX, it’s a good car for daily use, soooo comfortable ^^
118k on my 1996 accord ex and ride better than my friends new Camry
in fact I like the car so much that I just bought new wheels today. This is the second set of wheels in ten yrs
I abused this baby all day.
btw the 96-97 accord is the cheapest car to maintain of all cars. Look it up

i would invest in an accord... it could be any year these cars can hang, i have a 5th gen, ive owned it for 5 years now and till this day she has never failed me, never left me stranded or anything like that, i had her with a broken motor mount, leaking trans, messed up rack and pinion, messed up thermostat, belts were all worn out and despite all this she still ran comfortable and never messed up, i also have to agree with all the guys that said that they are cheap to maintain cause its true, compare the price of Mitsubishi parts with honda part and you will see the difference. So to pretty much sum it up, accords are very reliable and cheap to maintain, what specific year and trim is up to you
