Default alarm led

summery of the passage below: which cable can i plug in a old disabled alarm's red led into so that it turns on when i turn off the car and turns off when i turn on the car?

EDIT: i own a 94 accord coupe.

...ok so im going to be installing a new stereo tomarrow, and i noticed something intresting tonight as i was setting up for the quick installation tomarrow, i found the old led light that went to the alarm system for the car before it was disabled, and i was wondering could i just splice the led into a power cable so it will stay on and make people think i have a alarm? ok so thats a dumb Q, i know i can do that but im wondering which cable will turn on the led when the car is off and turn off the led when the car is on... anyone know?

you probably cant do it, as the LED wont handle 12 volts... the old alarm would have had a low voltage output specifically for the LED. You can get 12 volt ready LED's, with a holder and wire from www.parts-express.com and wire one of them up. They have blinking and steady versions. Radio Shack may also have something like this. You would need a constant positive to the LED... and for the ground, wire it to the ignition wire, when the key is off, the ignition wire will show a ground. On top of the interior fuse box, you'll see a brown connector with a few heavy gauge wires going into it... it should be black with a yellow stripe.

12V + resistor = voltage that LED works. If you want it to blink, you should just buy one of the fake-alarm-LEDs that are sold in various places.

I have a blue one of those that comes on with my alarm. The ultra-bright bit makes it stand out, which also makes it look kinda fake looking. Along with the fact that it blinks really fast, unlike any real alarm I've seen. If you don't mind some soldering, you could modify the circuit to make it look more like a real alarm LED.

alarms are so pointless though, only thing i like about them is the keyless entry.. and i could get that a lot cheaper.. i mean if i was going to get a alarm i would spend a little extra and get a lojack..

To make those varad LEDs look like a real alarm LED, you would want to slow down the blink rate as well as tone down the brightness a bit.
