Default Vtec Controller

Hey, I have a 1996 Honda Accord EX. I am thinking of getting a Apex Vtec Controller for my car. The thing I dont get is how you can change your Vtec. Lets Say I adjust my Vtec to go off at 3,000 RPM's, will the Vtec Kick in tell redline? Is there some catch that I dont know about? Also Is it worth it, and do you think I will notice a big difference?

Yes, you adjust where your VTEC cam profile takes over at. You can adjust it to go however far you want.

The vtec controllers are not really worth it unless you have done some mods tha really have changed how the engine works. But yes with proper mods vtec does need to be adjusted to get max performance. But with just a vtec controller you may lose power. And yes if you set it at 3000 rpm it will continue all the way until the rev limiter kicks in.

I have AEM CAI, DC Sport headers, Knock off Greddy rear end exhaust, and Cam Gears(non adjusted). Would I lose power with those mods?

It mgiht help some but without new cams and just cam cam gears(unadjusted) I dont think it will help too much, but it could help if you start adjusting your cam gears.

Yes ..Dyno tune is a must! Each car is different, my CAM Gear (We only have 1) right now is set to -2 degree's. It gave me the biggest gains without loosing any power. Having it set to +2 degree's, I lost power throughout. Having it set to -4 degree's netted me more power at the top end but I started losing power at the lower and middle range.

I have the following mods ...

Greddy Header (HPC Coated)
B&M FPR
Skunk2 CAM Gear
AEM CAI
Bored out TB
High Flow Cat
Greddy EVO Exhaust
APexi VAFC

With the mods above I am putting down 139 hp and 140 lb tq to the wheels. Which translates to around 160 hp and tq at the flywheel .. not bad about a 20 hp and tq jump over stock.

I actully looked into that and it was pointless for me to pay over 200 bucks to get it dynoed and adjust the cam gear. When I get more Performance Parts or a New Engine, I'll adjust them then and see what she runs.......
