How hard is it to install an OEM spoiler on 03 Coupe? Do I need to drill the trunk? I am very green on this stuff. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

 

yes you will have to drill holes in the trunk.

 

If it's anything like installing an OEM underbody kit (which I assume it is), it's very easy. Honda provides templates and VERY good directions with the spoiler. I would recommend doing it yourself...it saves a bit of money, it's fairly easy, and I had quite a bit of fun doing it with a friend.

If the spoiler is a Honda spoiler, they provide very usefull templates... Its a matter of finding where the spoiler will sit on the trunk, which can be done easily by measuring the span of the bolts on the spoiler... then place the templates on the trunk and measure the distance between the respectable "holes" on the templates... and measure from the front of the trunk lid, to the front of the template on each side, so both ends of the spoiler sit in the same place. Lightly center-punch the holes through the template... if you hit the punch too hard, you'll dent the steel around the hole and the spoiler gasket wont seat properly... also, when drilling the holes... start with a small bit, and gradually enlarge the hole by stepping up the bit size each time, being sure to drill slowly to not damage the surrounding steel... if you drill too quickly the bit will catch when it gets almost all the way through and "twist" the surrounding steel... so just take your merry time and be careful.

You know when you get a real Honda spoiler, cause the directions sometimes are in Japaneese.

 

Why would they be in Japanese when our 7gen Accord is only sold in North America?

 

Don't forget after u drill the holes make sure to put a good dose of anti-rust paint to cover up the exposed unpainted sheet metal.

 

almost all honda parts are made in japan... then shipped here and assembled...
notice I said sometimes... I wasnt referring to ALL cars and not particuluarly the 7th gen accord... the few 5th gen spoilers ive installed all came from Honda and all the directions were in japaneese.

 

5th gen is understandable, but you won't see any 6th or 7th gen Accord directions printed in Japanese. And it's Japanese bro, not Japaneese
