99 EX Transmission Trouble
I have the 4 cyl 2.3 Vtec and the tranny is acting up. It seems to over compensate when down shifting as I brake for a stoplight or sign. Also, when going up a hill, it downshifts and then takes its time shifting back into overdrive until the car plains out or sometimes sooner.
Keep in mind that this doesnt happen all the time now but seems to be getting worse slowly. I havent really heard any noises but I may not be listening for the correct things.
Is this internal transmission troubles or could it be the computer that tells the tranny when to shift(transmission control module TCM???). Anyone with this experience in a '99 with 82k miles???
How hard would it be to change out the TCM if that is what the diagnosis is???
Thanks for any help!
Chris
EDIT:
Also, how much would a auto - manual conversion cost approx and would it be worth it if the worst case evolves???

The overcompensation thing is not normal, but as said, the downshifting is the grade logic control. Sometimes annoying, but better than gear hunting.
cwa, NO. The trannies are not "defective"...unless you consider under 3% problems defective. And the tranny breaking only occurs on V6 models of the Accord from 98-01 and the CL/TL from 98-02.

Took it to Gold Seal Transmissions today in Upper Saddle River, NJ
The guy that took the test drive with me today said that although slightly noticable...the overcompensation thing is not a problem...at least not immediately and unless it gets much worse i dont have anything to worry about.
Thanks for the help
