Custom Plates???
I was out in Cali earlier this month on vacation. Stayed in LA and SF. This is one place I may go, once I'm settling down. Noticed that modded Civics and Integras out there are in the same ratio as here in NYC. A few Q's on license plates though:
1. What is the significance of the 4, 3, in the beginning of the Cali plate? Does it signify when the plate expires or something?
2. There aren't too many custom plates there. Maybe it's the time of day that I drive around, but even in the Chinatown, Thaitown, Koreatown, and Little Japan, I don't see plates. I do see pickup trucks with lift kits and custom plates, but no imports with custom plates. I thought I might see it on a Neon or a Cavalier, but no. How much is it? Is it illegal?
Thanks.

No offense, but that is a horrible question bro. Go to the NYS DMV website (search on Google...I think it's www.dmv.ny.us.com ), you can order custom plates with tons of logos or just plain for 50 bucks. If you get it with a logo you can pretty much get anything you want..I have a Yankees logo & 'VTEC'. I had I-VTEC on my RSX and VTEC also on my old Accord.
Dude, I know you can get custom plates in any state. I was just wondering why there weren't that many out there. Perhaps money or some other issue is the reason why there aren't that many. I saw them on lifted pickups and DaimlerChryslers, but not one on a sport compact. My comment is purely an observation of what I saw. I have a custom plate myself and ordered it directly from the NYS DMV website. I already have the FUGLY ass Empire state plate in my possession, but chose to keep the Liberty plates on my car.
Still no one FROM CALIFORNIA has claimed to have a custom plate on this board? Thought that might be a cheap but lasting mod, especially for a racer or show car.

Here in WA its $44 for the actualy metal plate, and $30 a year additional to car tabs. The tight thing is that WA voted to have $30 flat rate car tabs, so I'll only pay $60 in April! BTW, if you haven't figured it out, this is my custom plate:
Custom plates rock! Like everyone knows my name and car (aka the Sham-Mobile) cause of my plates.
