Ex-R or Ex-R v6 or Ex v6
I am Going to buy a 96 - 98 accord but im wondering which you think is better over all, abylity to modify, engine power, hadest parts to find,,,ect in between the ex v6, the Ex-r and the Ex-r v6
well the 96-98 Accords you refer to are 2 different generations. The 5th gen ran from 94-97. And the 6th gen ran from 98-02. If you want a 5th gen, dont get any V6, hardly any performance parts etc.... and no manual. Get a 96-97 EX-R(since im assuming your in Canada) which is the fully loaded model. If you want a 6th gen, get either v6 EX-R or a 4cyl EX-R. Because those V6's have quite a bit of power, but they only come in auto, and some have had tranny problems.
theres nothing wrong with the 5th gen V6's... yeah its a little weaker than the j30a engine... but there are still performance options. The only problem I see with the 5th gen V6 is the heavy front end... but if you upgrade the springs, that usually takes care of the semi-sluggish handling.
Being the 5th gen V6 shared the same engine as the 1st gen legends, which can be found with a manual tranny, I dont see anything stopping anyone from putting a stick tranny on a 5th gen V6.

There is no such thing as a 6th gen V6 EX-R, at least not that I know of....the only V6's in the 6th gen are, well in Canada:
LX-V6 (base, cloth seats, no moonroof)
Special Edition V6 (nice alloy wheels, moonroof, but cloth seats)
EX-V6 (fully loaded)

...about the available springs for a 5th gen V6; I really don't want to give up any ground clearance. The Eibach prokits seem to be highly recommended, but for the V6 the drop is 1.4". I have a set of Bilstein HD's on (back) order, and I was intending to use the stock springs. Does anyone have a better idea?

You could try stock springs from a 97-99 3.0 cl... its a heavier car, and last I knew the springs were a little stronger than the 5th gen ex-v6. That way you'll keep the stock ride height, but have slightly stiffer springs...
the springs used on the ex-v6 are stronger than the ones used on the 4 cylinder accords... so they did take the extra weight into account... but the extra weight also made the car a tad bouncy and the steering not as responsive as the 4 banger.
