With 215/50-17 tires, you need at least 45mm+ offset to avoid all troubles. You can run 40mm+ offset, but that means you'll need to go smaller on the tire width (205 instead of 215). Shaving down the center hub of your rims might weaken the struture of the rim. You need to read up on tire reading, offset, profile size, tire width, and plus sizing. I'm sorry that you have to learn a hard lesson, but that's what you'll have to do in this case. You should keep the tires and sell the rims.

OK, it looks like I learned the lesson the hard way, but how come
the three .coms I called which sale tires confirmed that this rim/size/offset and tire combo WILL FIT my car?
Is tirerack, WheelMax or 1010tires full of it ??
Evidently they don't know what they are talking about..

Here is the link to the pix of my troubled ride:

maybe if you tighten the lugs down more it might pull the rim in

i'm joking BTW. either shave the hub down at a machine shop. shouldnt be more than $50 or get new rims
