Default Dreaded Offset Question

OK I really need help here guys I posted another thread similar to this one and all I got was arguments and I need real answers please. Even performed a search and still no definite answers. I am wanting to go with a 17" rim on my 91 coupe. Should this be a 17x7 rim? Also what tire size will not throw my speedometer off in the least amount possible Discount tire is telling me that a 38 offset will work on my car but I am planning on lowering it with a 1 to 2 finger gap between the fenders and tire and from time to time slamming it (I am getting coilovers please don't discuss the coilovers to get I already know from a previous post I just need all the answers you can give me about rim size and offset with tire size I do not want the chance of rubbing at all, but I am having a very hard time finding 17's in a higher offset like 45, found a few in 40 and 42 would this be sufficient for what I will be doing with my car lowered and still not rub....Thanks so much guys in advance I know you all will be a great help~

P. s Please try to keep this discussion to only 4th genners as this is what I have
Thanks again

42 is fine, you don't need to 45+ offset for your car if you want 17s

I'm not sure what tire size...you can check here for a tire size for your car:

If you drop the car first, then you can go to Discount, have them mount up the tires you want on the wheels you want, bolt them on your car, and see where the sit. That's what I did to find out exactly what offset I wanted.

only problem is I will not be able to get the tires when I get the wheels, I am exchangin out my 18's with a 38 offset that they said would work :madfawk: (wouldn't be so mad if I didn't buy them from the store while I was on vacation 8 hours away from home and now have to drive all the way back up there to exchange them ) for some 17's with a better offset, but this is what I am trying to figure out now though on the whole offset thing and should I go 17x7 ? Thanks for your help though good idea......anyone else have any suggestions?

I'm looking to get 17's and I want to play it safe with 45mm offset. I'd think 42mm would be a risk with 215/40-17. Rolling the rear fender's doesn't appeal to me, but I think I'm going to have to take the risk.

Problem is, I want super lite wheels and the one's that are 45mm offset are really rare. Konig subzero's have it (discount carries them), but I want less than 16.5lbs. So it's either going to be velox pg-5's (12lbs 42mm), RO-JA formula 5's (15lbs 42mm) or SSR competition's (14lbs 42mm).

40 offset is waaayyyyyy too low, for any year accord, no matter what rim size it is. Anything below 42 is asking for trouble, and even 42 is pushing it. Trust me, I know, I have 42 offset and I'm not lowered much at all, but I rub on occasion with people in the back seat, I can only imagine what it would be like with more of a drop.

But look how far your car is from a 4th generation, all gens. take different offsets or at least I am told so just cause a 42 offset doesn't work on your generation, doesn't mean it won't work for us in the 4th gen. THanks for the info but please lets try to keep this discussing to 4th gens only there are many posts on offset's on 5th, 6th, and 7th gens. so keep it forth gens only please, thanks and I ma hearing that42 is optimal for 90-93's is this true? LItle hard to find a 45 in a 17" rim

Point taken, but his rational makes 100% sense based on a lot of searches and reading of ALLOT of posts here,......and on other honda forums that have accord owners. Their really isn't much of a difference in what offsets work and don't work between the generations. The problem is this. You get people that will tell you,"yes 42mm offset works just fine with 215mm", to many of those people HAVE NOT qualified if their tire's clear throughout the suspension's ENTIRE range of travel. 42mm and 215mm is a risk, not matter what gen you have. 45mm is playing it safe.

BTW, on a 3rd gen, I can say from experience, you cannot run 215mm width's unless you have 45mm offset or you'll be rolling the rear fenders.

naw man like i told you dude lol

+42 offset on 17x7 rims with 205/45/17 tires.
If you don't want your speedo to be too off use 205/40/17 tires.

+45 offsets for 17's are hella hard to find, and expesive at that.

Hey, your not kidding on 45mm for 17's, add in wanting less than 16lbs and I'm going crazy.
