Default Help Removing The Intake Resinator!

Can someone explain this to me? Supposedly removing the intake resinator and installing a K&N air filter will increase the HP approximately 2 HP.

Help. How will removing the intake resinator change the performance of the car?

Only thing I want to add.

I read that it increases the noise of the engine. I dont want anything extremely loud. I mean HOW noticeable of an engine sound increase is there?

Yeah my 5th gen is pretty loud with just the filter .. I ran over my resinator while going down the highway .. It fell out, so I decided to take it out and put a K&N filter on there.

Personally (at least on the V6) the intake removed doesn't sound very loud at all, barely noticable. It does add a little more growl, but it doesn't have that obnoxious intake sound. I took the resonator out, put in a K&N filter, extended the tubing from the airbox into the bumper, basically a DIY icebox. The sound is much better now, still not loud at all, but throaty, and power is improved (as much as an intake can improve power anyways). Personally I'm not a big fan of most aftermarket intakes, if you can't tell.

I agree, its not too loud for the 6 but its still noticeable on mine, and you'll hear the hiss right after you turn off the engine, kind of like a blow off valve noise. At city speeds I hear the exhaust more than intake, but >60mph and all I hear is the intake.

i took mine off recently. when i would step on the gas hard, the engine would produce a throaty but nevertheless annoying growl. i put my resonator back on. the 2 hp isnt worth the headache.

bulwinkle:

You think that the noise that it makes is annoying huh? So its definitely noticeable and somewhat annoying. Good to get some different opinions.

Would installing a K&N air filter and removing the resinator give me a good 3 HP gain?

i noticed the difference in noise. but i may just have sensitive ears. its all subjective. try it out and see if you like it. if you dont, its not too hard to put the resonator back on. i just didnt like the sound and i didnt really notice that much difference in the low to mid range. in high rpm's you notice it a little but not enough for me to put up with the noise.
