Default Heater controls (4th and 5th gen)

How many of you have had problems with the heater control not working properly? My moms car (91 SE) wont change from cold to hot... the knob turns, but hard... and the heat never gets hot. I manually switched the valve under the hood to turn the hot water on to the heater core, but still no heat... I hope the heater core isnt bad.

In my 5th gen, its picky... Sometimes it works, sometimes it dosent... sometimes the knob wont turn at all... and other times its fine...

What are your experiences with this? Ive heard of just changing the temperature control cable...?? is there one or two of these?

my knob was really hard to turn when i bought my 94 accord last yr. My A/c never got real cold and i never knew why, until i took it into the shop. Turns out the cable was messed up, that runs from the knob to the engine. So my heater was always running just a tad, in turn causing my a/c to be warmer. The a/c shop manually pulled the cable to as far as they could to cold, and i had ice cold a/c. They told me to go to honda and have them fix it because its difficult. I havnt done that yet.... but now my knob does nothing, because the cable was lying lose in my passenger floor compartment, some how it got lose and fell off. And my a/c is no longer cold, nor to i have heat. I am able to adjust the temp in the engine bay though, near the firewall, but as hard as i pull the cable towards cold, it doesnt get real cold again. i hate it

Yeah mine doesn't work very well either. I kinked the cable once and after that it has never been the same...

Both the knob on my temp and the one on my blower level controls on my 95 broke off about two weeks ago when it was realy cold...the cables would not turn at all, even with plyers. The dealer was able to fix it though.

unless like said above the cable is kinked, reach in the pass side floor board under the center of the dash and make sure there is nto anything blocking the flap from moveing and also check to see if maybe a wire harnes shifted and is on the cable or the flap thoes are 3 things that I have found in some of the 4th gens that we have fixed and also if your A/C blower isn't blowing correctly check to make sure something like a napkin didnt get sucked into the blower box.

Good luck

I rejoined this forum today to ask this very question. My heat/AC dial is doing the exact thing. I have to change from heat to AC and vice versus by reaching under the glove compartment and sliding some dial. Anybody know how to fix it or know how much the dealership charges? One more thing, does anybody know whats wrong when you can feel heat blowing even when you turn the heat off.

My Temp Control Knob broke on my 95 Accord. To adjust the heat I have to pull the knob off and use pliers, and it is very hard to turn, which is why the plastic knob broke in the first place I assume. Other than that, my heat and a/c work fine... its just a pain to adjust them, but I only have to do it twice a year .
