Default 93 Accord SE Audio question

ok, this doesnt make any sense to me, but maybe you guys can shed some light. . .

my girlfriend has a 93 SE and she just recently went to have a new headunit installed. It turned out that the installers called her and told her that she needed new speakers too. . . this doesnt make any sense to me. The factory wires should mount right up to her new speakers and an adapter harness should simplify the mounting of the headunit. Does the fact that she had the bose system have anything to do with this??

let me know. . .i have a feeling she got screwed and im kinda annoyed about it

The Bose systems usually have separate amps for front rear speakers which messes the wiring up. Places like Crutchfield have special kits to work with Bose systems. I know my friend had to pay some coin for his stereo cause he has a Camaro with a special 6 speaker AC delco system that has separate amps.

Shes kind of wasting her time with just a deck... the sound is not going to improve very much being the stock amp and speakers are still in there. You'll run into a lot of noise problems if you run the new deck through the stock amp... and the speakers are most likely 2 ohms, when they should be 4... deck amps are not made to handle 2 ohm loads, so if the deck amp does not turn off, it will run very hot and be damaged over time.

Her best bet is going to be to bypass the entire Bose system... install a new deck with a wirring harness, bypass the amp (you can buy an adapter, or find the wirring diagram and splice the wires yourself) and run new speakers.

Bose always liked to make it hard to add on to their stock stereos... just another reason they suck so bad.
