Default Check engine light on problem

i've just bought an honda accord 99 LX AT, d cel is always on unless i remove d battery & reconnect then it goes off for say 15-30mins & comes back on. i get about 300-320miles for full tank. i notice d catalytic converter has been worked on b4 & d wheels are 17inch. what can i do to get better mpg & clear d cel.

The mileage sounds about right for an auto transmission with 17 inch wheels. The CEL could be a number of things from O2 sensors to the gas cap not tightened all the way. You'll have to get it diagnosed from a mechanic with an OBDII reader.

Hopefully, Hondas in Nigeria also have OBD-2 equipment. I'm not real sure if they do...

If so, do car-parts stores have error code readers? Around here (USA) I can go to AutoZone & the guy will plug in his code reader & tell me what it says. You'll want to come back & tell us the actual code number - not the guy's creative description of what's wrong.

In Nigeria does the word "the" not exist?
