Default can you guys help me change my o2 sensor

lately ive been throwing code 1166, 1167 for the primary oxygen sensor, im going to try to replace it myself since honda wants $150 for the labor.... its a 99 accord ex ulev... and i know there is a difference for the ulev(f23a4) and the standard(f23a1) my question is, where is this thing located? pics would help, what fuse do i need to pull to clear the code after the install? and will a universal o2 sensor socket work or do i need something special? thanks in advance for any help

It's #9 right up front when you open the hood.

Check to see if the electrical plug is dirty/corroded/loose before you get the new sensor. The socket to remove that thing should be the same as any other O2 sensor. Soak it with PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench or something like that 'cause it'll probably be stuck.

The 1998 I used to have wasn't ULEV so I don't remember the ULEV-only error codes, like 1166 & 1167. If those are for the preheater, you'll want to check it's resistance to verify it's really bad.

Clear the code by pulling fuse #13 in the right-end of the dashboard. Gotta open the door to get at that fusebox.

thanks jimblake, everything went well with switching them, needed a breaker bar to get the old one out, is there a certain amount i should torque the new one? the light still wouldnt go off after i pulled fuse 13, is there a certain amount of time i need to leave it out, start the car with it out maybe? both codes pertained to the primary o2 sensor so being that i swapped it out it should have taken care of the CEL. i made sure i got the right part because i used my vin# to pull up the right sensor at the parts counter... thanks again for all your help

I don't remember the torque, but I just make it moderately tight. It's got a crush-washer like spark plugs, so it can probably tolerate a fair range.

I usually pull the fuse for about 20 or 30 seconds. For all I know maybe 2 seconds is sufficient.

Any of the codes can be caused by bad wiring in the car, so now you have to chase that down. I'm at a bit of a loss because I don't know the actual definition of those codes. Like O2 signal vs the sensor preheater.

The circuit for that O2 sensor is completely different for the ULEV engine vs the F23A1. I think the sensor heater is powered from a different fuse & the signal goes to a different pin on the ECU. Be aware of that if you find some specific troubleshooting or wiring drawings. It's too bad I don't still have the Helm book for that car...

my boy just cut the light off with his obd II reader after the same codes popped back up, 1166, 1167, the car is back running sluggish, after some research on the net, ive been reading that folks are using 36531-paa-l22 for the correct replacement for the ulev, and the CEL goes off after the install and fuse pull... the girl at the parts counter sold me 36531-paa-307. i found the l22 o2 sensor on the hondaparts website but they dont tell me what it fits.... im thinking of taking back the one i bought and exchanging it for the l22.... i hope that wont be a problem, but knowing honda it probobly will be.
