Default suspension trouble...need help!

I just removed monroe rear shocks off of my 1996 accord. I bought some KYB shocks and installed them. The KYB's came with a nut and a spacer and that's it. I took it for a test drive and a clunking noise was coming from the rear. When I looked at the top strut mount, the rubber bushing, spacer, and top bolt were sitting way up and hitting a metal bracket in the car(the clunking noise). So I was wondering, was I supposed to use KYB's spacer instead of the spacer that was already on there? The KYB spacer is less than 1/2 as long as the original spacer. What else could be wrong? Thanks.

You must be missing some washers, probably below the rubber mount. Did you use the washers that were installed on the Monroes?

No instructions or a diagram with the KYBs?
You can look up how the OEM ones are supposed to be on Majestics site and see what you're missing. hondaautomotiveparts dot com

Agreed, it sounds like you forgot one of the washers. You are supposed to have 2 metal washers and a strut mount (rubber, doughnut-looking), below the metal strut mount.
