Default Engine icon flashed a few times after hard acceleration...

04 V6/EX/NAV/Coupe/AT. I really had to step on the gas today on the interstate because a car was about to NOT let me merge. I was probably doing 50-55MPH on the entry ramp and had to go to 70MPH pretty fast. A couple seconds later after I slowed down, this orange engine icon (on the left of the cluster, above the tach) blinks about 7 or 8 times. It was NOT the Traction control or oil light icon; it had no words and was just an engine icon. I am wondering if it was letting me know I revved it pretty hard although I don't think I hit redline. I'm usually pretty easy on my car and use only premium fuel, but I had to get up and go or I was gonna be out of space. The tires didn't squeal and the acceleration was nice, but the blinking engine icon has me confused. Hopefully, someone on here will know what that meant and it was just a "warning" that I sat on WOT for a second or two when I was already doing about 55MPH. Thanks for any info...h:

No. It just flashed a few times and the car never missed a beat as far as the way it ran.

Is the car still under warranty? If it repeats itself I'd take it in. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

In some cars, flashing of the engine light can indicate mis-fires. I'm not sure if that applies to Honda's, though.

Even tho the lamp went out, the ECU should still have the error code stored. Go to an AutoZone-type place where they'll read the error code for free. Get the actual code number, not just their verbal description.

More than likely it was a cylinder misfire. This happened to me just after new years coming back from a ski trip. I stepped on it and the engine light came on. The next day I went on the highway to see if I could repeat it, and I did; this time the engine light stayed on. Had to get all new spark plugs and all 24 valves adjusted. At the same time since I have 96,000km on her I got the timing belt changed; total came to just over $900. It's a big job for them to get all valves adjusted, but I haven't had any problems since.

As stated it was probably a misfire. Was the engine cold?

If you choose any time to punch it make sure the engine is warmed up from now on... I'd probably get it checked out if the problem presents itself again
