Service Engine Light
Hello guys
I took my car to get the throttle body cleaned. The top sensor from the throttle body got damage thats what I was told. Is that the TPS sensor? Now I have the SEL. Where can I purchased this part and what is the part number? I'm taking the car to Autozone to get the code. I have a 98 Honda Accord EX 2.3
Thanks

It is the TPS the bad thing is that the dealer doesnt sell this part individualy I have to buy the throttle body. I don't want to spend more that $200 dollars for this part. I guess my best bet is e-bay. Does anyone have one that is willing to sell???? any suggestions?
Thanks alot for the help
Thanks alot for the help
Thanks for the help nspec_Cd5
The guy who cleaned the throttle body told me that the sensor that went bad is the one that seats on top of the throttle body I guess thats the TPS. I have seen a throttle body on E-bay but is there a difference from EX, DX or LX? What about year? Would the light be causing poor MPG?

The sensor on top is the manifold-air pressure (MAP) sensor, #11.
The throttle-position sensor (TPS) is on the throttle shaft opposite the cable drum. It's not labeled as a separate part.

If it REALLY is the TPS you need, it's held on by screws that are made to look like rivets. Use a dremel to cut a slot for a screwdriver. Find a junkyard donor & swap the sensors if the actual throttle body doesn't match.

Thanks for the help I went ahead and bought a used throttle body from e-bay. Is the engine light going to go off automatically one I installed the sensor or disconect the battery while replacing the sensor that way by the end i'm done the engine light would be reset. Nothing would happen to the radio right?
Thanks
Thanks
um, there's a couple questions in that last big sentence... right?
Does your used eBay throttle body come with the MAP sensor? If not, you still have a bad MAP sensor.
You can probably do this without disconnecting the battery. But if you DO disconnect the battery, you'll need the stereo's security code.
You can reset the ECU by pulling fuse #13 in the dashboard fusebox next to the RIGHT front door hinges. If you DON'T reset the ECU, the warning lamp will keep coming on for several driving cycles before it clears itself.

Yesterday it was 13 degrees outside and all of the sudden my CEL just went off and I still haven changed the MAP or TPS. Does that means the problem is solved? Does cold weather makes the car get bad mpg? Maybe because the heater is constantly on?
