Default 02 Accord tachometer is lower than normal

I have an 2002 Accord Coupe EX 2.3L and the tach won't rev past 2rpm. Engine is perfect, it is just the tach is behaving oddly. I am at idle at 200rpm(the first line on the tach) while it used to be at 800(slightly under 1000). The tachometer is very responsive everytime I touch the gas and moves up and down. It's just off and when I'm cruising at 80mph, it says I'm at 1500rpm. Any help on what is wrong with it? Bad connection? Tachometer gone bad? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Ummm... the 6th gens still had a distributor, right guys?

Assuming so I'd take the cap off and make sure the connection underneath are nice and clean and if that doesn't help I'd guess that the coil is going bad... or maybe the ignitor.

Just a guess, could be the tach. itself

Does the tach. needle ever jump at all while driving or read normally for a brief moment? If it's constantly off w/ no jumping etc., plus the fact that it's reading under, not over, it seems more likely that it might just be the tachometer. You've never removed the needles have you?
