Default no speedo, abs light is on

speedo works sometimes, sometimes it doesn't. abs light is on... i believe all the time. not sure if these are realated. I would think they could be...but the abs light is still lit even when the speedo works it is always on even when you first start the car before it moves. the CEL light has not come on.

ive read it can be 1 of a few things

VSS sensor
wheel speed sensor
gauge cluster itself

anyone have any input....if its intermitent, can it still be the gauge cluster?

If you get the abs code pulled it will tell you more. Probably the vss or the vss connector. The abs system will hold a code for a long time, until the vss passes several times. Basically the abs unit get a signal from the vss, wave or digital. If it dose not get this signal or not a clear signal it codes, and holds the code.

when we do that, the abs light comes on, goes off for 5 seconds then comes on for 1, for a total of 3 blinks, 5 seconds apart. then stops. trying again it would blink every 10 seconds

if its a VSS thats going bad....would it have to be bad at the moment of the check to get a code for it? or does it store the code?

check engine light stays lit

wierd thing....when we restart, the ABS light is off, no speedo then it comes on soon.

(94-97) ABS DTCs...
1 - ABS pump motor over-run
1 2 ABS pump motor
1 3 high pressure leakage
1 4 pressure switch
1 8 high pressure system
2 1 parking brake
3 1 pulser RF
3 2 pulser LF
3 4 pulser RR
3 8 pulser LR
3 12 different diameter tires
4 1 wheel sensor RF
4 2 wheel sensor LF
4 4 wheel sensor RR
4 8 wheel sensor LR
5 - rear wheel lock - R/L
5 4 rear wheel lock - R
5 8 rear wheel lock - L
6 - fail-safe relay - F/R
6 1 fail-safe relay - F
6 4 fail-safe relay - R
7 1 solenoid - RF
7 2 solenoid - LF
7 4 solenoid - R
8 1 ABS function
8 2 CPU comparison
8 4 IC self-check

??? Confused you have a code 3 ??? Or do you mean you have one long blink and 3 shorts ones that would be a code 1-3. A code 1-3 is usually a failed abs unit/pump/accumulator. You may still have a bad vss. You may be able to get the book hear http://hondatech.info/downloads/Auto/Manuals/

Ok when you read a code the light will come one once go off for a bit then blink the code lets say you have 3 long blinks and 1 short blinks you have a code 3-1.

ive read codes off of gm's before...and this doesn't seem like a normal code, something goofy is up

here is exactly what happens

turn the car on -not start, (with jumper in)

abs light comes on, stays on for about 2 seconds then goes out

5 seconds later, comes on for about .5 seconds

5 seconds later, comes on for about .5 seconds

never comes on again.

the first light, i thought, didn't mean anything. and usually the code recycles itself but its not doing that. and is it usually 5 seconds between blinks?

Dug deep cant find any info for a code 2. Try driving it get the abs light on do not turn off the car then jump the connector? Thats all I can think of. I have never seen a code 2 ya something is strange.
