Default Horn chirp when turning ignition off

Greetings,

This is my first post to this forum. I just purchased a 2002 Accord EX. I noticed on the way home today, when I stopped for gas, that when I turned the engine off, the horn chirped once just before I removed the key. When I got home, just as an experiment, I turned the key on and off several times (without starting the engine each time, of course), and whether I turned it off quickly and removed the key as fast as I could, or turned it slowly and left the key in, the horn would chirp within about 0.5 seconds of turning the key out of the Run (II) position. Any ideas what may cause this?

Thanks!

It's a factory system. The dealer I bought the car from didn't have the remote, so I got one from a Honda dealer and programmed it myself. It's a Honda-branded remote. But I noticed this even before obtaining the remote.

not sure where the control module is located in ur car. but in mine, 95, its under the driver seat. if urs there, just disconnect it and leave it alone for a while. if you can drive the car w/ module disconnected. then drive it around for about a day or two. and then reconnect it and see if that helps.
if you can't drive teh car w/o that connected, then disconnect if for an hour or two and then reconnect it.

When I click the Lock button on the remote, it locks but the horn doesn't chirp. It will chirp if I hit the "Lock" button a second time quickly enough. I figure that's normal; I had a Mazda 6 that worked the same way. The chirp when I hit "Lock" a second time is slightly longer and louder than the chirp when I turn the ignition off, though.

I'm taking the car to a dealer next week to have it checked over and get some floor mats; I'll ask them about the chirp at the same time.

Actually, here's a question: Aside from the red "Security" light next to the driver's door lock, there is a small black box with a red LED on it under the steering column. The LED is always on. I'm thinking that's probably not a factory-installed device; could that be a 3rd-party security system that the independent dealer installed, or that another dealer might have installed?

thats a shock sensor. u do not have a factory alarm. its an aftermarket alarm.
when you lock it the first time, it locks it. when u double press the lock button. It puts it into second stage arming. which i dont know what your alarm is set to.

if you can find out the brand of the alarm, you can get the manual and change the chirping.

Sounds like maybe I have both...? The red "Security" light next to the driver's door lock blinks when I lock the car using the remote key fob, or if I lock the door and then close it. The shock sensor must be an aftermarket add-on; maybe someone had it added onto the factory system? A security system is standard on the EX.

i'd go to a local audio/video shop and have them check it out instead of having to pay honda dealer like $100 just to check it out.
