Horn chirp when turning ignition off
I took the car to a dealer yesterday to have some other things checked out and asked them about the LED and horn chirp at the same time. They didn't charge me to look, but their alarm specialist didn't have a chance to look it over, either. On first glance, though, it appeared that the LED box under the steering column is part of an aftermarket alarm system that was added on to the factory system. I have to bring it back in again for some things that there wasn't enough time for the first time, though, and at that point I'll have their alarm specialist check it out further.
I finally got off my lazy rear and crawled under the dash to get a look at the LED. I was looking for a manufacturer label of some kind. I had felt around the back side of the LED box and did not find a button at all. But lo and behold, when I looked under it, there was a button right there! I put my key in and turned it to the Run position, then pressed the button, and voila! The light went out. And from that point on, when I turn the ignition off, no more chirp. Also, when I arm and disarm the car, the horn chirps as it is supposed to, which it didn't do before.
After that, I got curious and tried to follow the wires from the LED. I couldn't follow them too far, but it looked like they were running toward the fuse box. I popped open the fuse box cover, and bingo! There was the alarm brain box right there. It's obviously an aftermarket system, but it doesn't have its own siren; it's tied into the car horn. And wherever the car came from, there were no transmitters with it. The brain itself is stamped with the name "Omega R&D" and has a web site, www.caralarm.com. I went to the web site and tried to look up the model number, which is AL-101, but couldn't find anything. Google searches have been negative as well. The unit says "Omega R&D UltiMate AL-101" on it. Anyone heard of this company and know where I might find manuals? Maybe I need an alarm specialist?
Thanks!
