Default 98 V6 tranny slipping

I have a 98 v6 coupe with 118k miles. I noticed a couple of weeks ago that the transmission started slipping. The engine will rev when upshifting and will shift very hard when downshifting on 3-2 and 2-1 intermittenly. The oil appears to be full with some darker discoloration. The check engine light has not yet come on. I spoke with a Honda Service Manager today, and he said that Honda only replaces these with remanufactured trans. It will cost about $4,000.

What can I do to get more mileage out of the car? My cousin's an engineer at Mitsubishi Motors Manufacturing and suggested that I try a product called transfix.

The service manager suggested that I not change the trans oil because the slipping will get much worse.

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I don't really want to spend $4k on a car that is only worth $5k.

Thanks.

Mike

Honda of America may give you some "goodwill" consideration and pay for at least part of the transmission. I recommend contacting them.

Thanks for the prompt response. Is there a particular number or department that I should contact? The car has been very good to us since we bought it new. We have had every recommended service performed by a Honda or Acura dealership. I would hope that Honda could help us out since it is a known problem. Thanks again.

I would definitely contact Honda of America's customer service and plead your case. Make sure to let them know you bought it new and have had the services done at dealerships. It will be a big plus. And don't act like an ass. Let them know you've been very happy with the car except for this one thing. I'd be willing to bet they'll hook you up.

Is the D4 light flashing? Do some research on trans stall testing. Search button up top.

The numbers you are looking for are in the back of you owners manual. The dealer may say no ,some times thy will goodwill a trans but if you call the numbers in the back of your owners manual thy will say yes to a new trans call your local dealer and tell them to do (eliminate the middle man). Dealers usually tell you no after 100k.

If you call the number in the back alway say you are going to buy a new Honda Pilot but now you are thinking twice if the transmissions fail after 100k.

Additives will just be a waste of money. Try to get goodwill consideration or have a cheaper shop put it in.
