I can shift out of park it only does it if it is hot or in the sun for ahwile.

 

Ok you have to short your scs (service check connector) its a blue connector on the pass. side under dash 2 wires. Use a paper clip. The D4 light will blink a code.

Read my attachment. Let me know what code you get and we may be able to fix it or doom your trans.

 

Why am I finding it so difficult to find a simple list of diagnostics codes for my wife's '92 Accord?

The transmission is blinking a 13. I had thought a google of Honda Accord Transmission Error Codes would have yielded a thousand pages of faqs. No luck.

Check it to be shure all I can find is a 11 and a 14,15.

 

Sounds to me like an infamous Honda relay problem. If you know anything about Honda's main relay problem, hot outside, sitting in the sun, crank and no start. That's due to a badly overheated Main Relay that controls the fuel pump. What happens to these relays is, the solder contacts crack, abd break. Under extreme heat in the cabin, the cracks will seperate more than when it's warm and cool, causing the open in the circuit.

I imagine that it's the same, for a transmission relay. This is going by what you have told us, but I do not know of any transmission relays that is similar to the main relay in design.

Let us know if you find the culpret.

 

main feul relay for your car. that will trigger the d4 light and its in the summer time. its located under the driver's side dash left side. do a search. cheap part easy to do. i still havent found out why my d4 light is flashing. car runs and shifts fine. didnt start till after i installed a used gauge cluster. only blinks 1x if u even notice it. weather doesnt matter. main feul relay should take care of u. when its hot the contacts swell so the connection is lost.

 

13 is mainshaft speed pulse generator open or shorted

Strange, my sources list A/T codes 1-15 with 12 and 13 missing.

15. kickdown switch circuit shorted.

i went back and checked my source there r 15 codes 14 listed.
