Default Trunk alarm question

Hi guys, I have an alarm at my car its a viper alarm, dont know which model. Right now if somebody opens up the trunk the alarm would not go off. Do I need to buy an extra hardware for my trunk so it triggers the alarm when trunk is opened? Thanks!!

I have a viper 791xv in my 94, and they added a tilt switch for the trunk... i think I paid an extra 12.95 for it or something. Works great.

I have 2000 Honda Accord LX 4 cyl. Is it easy to install? Do you think I can do it myself? Can you direct me to a site that has the detailed instruction on how to install the switch. Many thanks!

Do you have the hood pin switch? i.e. popping the hood, alarm goes off? If so, get another one and place it by the trunk edge and I'm assuming you can just wire it up to the one on the hood.

Typically, you would wire the trunk light positive to the alarm. Sometimes, that wire is available in the front. Vipers(and all DEI alarms) usually have a "hood/pin" input for this. Should be labeled on the brain of the alarm. You should identify the correct wire on the trunk lid using a multimeter before connecting it to the alarm. If you dont have a trunk light, you need either a pin switch or a mercury switch, as posted above. Pin switches usually rust over the years or get beat up. Mercury switches can be unreliable, like when you park on a hill, but are easy to install. You would wire either of these into the same spot on the alarm brain - "hood/pin".

Good luck

OK I have a trunk light in my Accord, so I dont need the pin switch or mercury right? All I need is to tap the trunk light positive to the Viper brain module correct? Thanks!

Exactly. Just be sure the default for triggers on the brain is what you're sending to it. If it takes a negative trigger, you'll need to do a relay. Im sure instructions are around for that.

Good luck, Spy
