Default Rear bumper trunk screws... ack.

Hey guys, first time poster here... be gentle

I recently acquired a 5th gen 96 accord sedan lx from some relatives and it has a lot of scratches and dings here and there.

I searched up some stuff on repairing rear bumper dents and I figured I'd fix it myself since it seemed easy enough. I ran into a major problem though, after I opened the trunk to get to the 5 screws on the top holding the plastic bumper to the rear I was only able to unscrew one. The rest refuse to come out and sort of just turn in place like the ridges were smoothed (sp?) down. I've tried just about everything besides ripping the bumper off itself... so if you guys have any advice that'd be great!

PS: If you have no idea what I'm talking about I can go out later and take a few pictures to illustrate.

Same thing happened to me i had to hit them out with a screwdriver and hammer downwards and buy all new ones...basically a small screwdriver in the middle of it and hit it with the hammer the inside will go down and out and u pull it out...works but you will need new ones.

I'm not really sure what you mean... should I get a Phillips head and bang the screw through to break the screw harness thing (I don't know what it's called) and pull both pieces out? Or will I end up just having to pull the screw out?

Edit: Also, if you could tell me what these particular type of screws are called it'd help me buy a new set if I decide to follow your advice. Thanks in advance!

Alright thanks! I'm pretty sure I'd rather dish out a few dollars for new screws rather than live with the huge dent in the bumper.

I used a drill and drilled them out. I think they are called "nylon rivets" and i got them in boxes of 10 at o'reilley's for like 3 bux. oh, if you drill em slow, you can pull them out cuz they get stuck on the bit.
