Default Honda Accord '98 - Check Engine Light

Hi there,

I have a '98 Accord EX (2.3l, 4 Cyl, ULEV, 105000 miles). It runs great. Only sometimes, when I turn it off for a few minutes, and turn it back on, it can't maitain 750-800 rpm and turns off. I do it again and it goes fine.

Here's the main problem...

The CEL came on about a month ago. The code was P1167 and my mechanic replaced the O2 sensor (the front one). I got the CEL 'on' the very same day again. This time the code was for P1164. My mechanic suggested to fill in some good quality gas and this should go away in a few days by itself, as he thought it was because of air-fuel mixture ration and some possible problem with ignition wires etc.

I just kept driving with this CEL 'on' for past one month. I visited the same mechanic yesterday. This time the code is different. Now it is for the barometeric pressure sensor. The mechanic concludes that the computer is not functioning properly as he has checked thoroughly and the O2 sensor and the barometeric sensors are all good. The computer reads same code weather the sensor is there or not.

I am wondering what to do. Honda dealer asks for $80 for a check. I can't understand if the computer is bad, how everything else is ok. Or is computer not working? Can I get a computer chip from somewhere if I need a replacement at all ?

Because I'm sure Honda dealer will charge a lot.

Any help, folks!

Wrong. Fuel treaments never work and are ultimatly hard on your catalytic converter. Which is already fragile enough on the 6th gen accord.

EGR.

The 4cyl ECU cannot even compensate for higher octane gas, putting in premium gas is worthless. I highly doubt the ECU is bad.
