Default remote starter

hey i noticed at like walmart and other stores with auto sections there are remote starters for like 50 bucks.
i don't know how much they usually run for because i haven't shopped for them at all, i just noticed that and it seemed cheap. Anyways, i was just wondering if anyone here has purchased these,
a) how is that price comparitively?
b) how well do they work?
c)and how hard is it to install?, they come with video directions so i was like damn that sounds like it must be hard.

oh well just wondering about this, gimme some answers if you can, later

i bought mine from hifi buys for like 110 and 90 to install because it is complicated and they need to permantly install a key so the ignition will read it. Mine is made by avital they only thing i dislike is that i have to unlock the car before startig or my alarm goes ****in nutz!

Peace,
Tom

Hey Cord2001, I would take that back and have them hook the factory alarm disarm wire up so that when you remote start your car the brain will send out a signal to your factory alarm and disarm it before it sets it off. They shouldnt have let it go with out it. If you go back they should fix it for free.

they make a transponder that copies the code in your key, and activates only when the remote starter is activated, so the anti-theft feature of it isnt totally defeated.

so when your car is remote started, someone can just hop in and drive it away?

the best remote start systems are the ones that are integrated into the alarm. ie, with the clifford intellistart 4, (which also works with manuals, w/o bypassing the safety switch), the alarm remains fully armed when the car is started, minus the shock sensor.

HIFI Buys went out of business because of someone sleeping? They would have just fired the guy and hired someone else. They are a major chain and that doesnt sound like what would have happened.

Remote starts........if installed properly would have a brake switch shut off so that they wouldnt shut off when someone got in to try and steal it if it were started.

Sorry about that, I would steer away from any remote starter from Walmart. Usually if you check the prices of "quality brand names" and then see one for 50.00 that should tell you something about the quality of the product. I have been an installer for a long time now and just havent seen any good results form cheap merchandise. Its like those traveling circus clans that sell 1000 watt amplifiers for 69.00, and 800watt subwoofers for 29.00 at the trade centers. Its just not going to be all that it is marketed to be. So your best bet is to go with a quality brand name remote starter and if you want to give instalaltion a shot yourself then let me know and I will hook you up with the tech sheet for your car.
