stupid mechanic...
ok so there's this clunking noise over bumps about 10 mph, and never on the highway. A friend say he had the same problem and it was tie rods. So I told the mechanic, it was either tie rods, ball joints, or stabalizer bar. He says its definetly the shocks after driving it. He never even looks under the car.
Me being confident in his diagnoses.. I agreed to replace the shocks. Then drov around the block abd I still feel the clunk. Took it back, but had to goto work.. so I just left. He say "sometimes the shocks oil needs to settle, wait a day" or something like that...
so it was $260 for two front shocks including labor, and nothing is fixed.

If it doesn't "settle" take it back and have him undo the work. Make sure he doesn't "loose" your old shocks.
Tough to diagnose the clunks, but even harder from the drivers seat and not even looking under the car.
Upper balljoints-just grab the arm and pull up and down on it. Any play will cause a clunk.
Sway bar mounts or endlinks.
Lower balljoints.
Could be the tie rods.
I've heard of cracked springs doing it as well.
For my CR-V it was the endlinks first, then the sway mounts, then last week or so the upper ball joint.
For my Civic it was the upper ball joint.

thanks... looks the the most common is the sway bar end links. I will have them check it out

Titles are for idots. example Im active duity AF if i call my supervisor Staff Sergent "Insert last name" there proubably gonna look at me funny. point is even if they are a mechanic someone can still not have a clue whats wrong. best advice at this point scerw the mechanic. hes alredy proven that he doesnt know what hes talking about. get a haynes or chiltons manual and start troubleshooting. the worst that could happen is that you find out that it is the sway bar end link. at which time you have the manual to assist in the removial and installation of a new one. DIY is usally cheeper and in the long run your better off. because then when your friend with the same car and proublem comes and askes if you know whats going on you can charge them to fix it yourself. then your the mechanic. see it all comes back to the title thing lol....
