Default VTEC silenoid???

How much should this thing cost? The stealership wants $342 for it.

How much oil will it normally leak when it goes bad? They are telling me that it's gushing out bad enough to cause it to drip down my engine and on the ground....

How easy is it to install yourself?

Thanks in advance.

Dunno. Check the junkyards or eBay before you go to the dealer though. Here's one on eBay for $60. By the way, it's "solenoid"

Yeah, I've already been looking on ebay. Not much there and that particular one looks very rusty and not even complete.

At any rate, does anyone know how much they should be leaking when they start to go bad and what affects does the leaking have on the overall engine performance, etc.?

Did they say why it's not enough to just replace the gaskets?
#10 & #12, maybe also #21 - all 3 only a few bucks.

Their supposed "policy" is to suggest replacing the whole thing since the Check Engine light can come on after messing with the solenoid. However, when I spoke with the mechanic directly, he said that he would replace the gasket if it were his and take the risk. $12 part versus a $343 part.... So that's what I did. Because of other issues on the car, I haven't heard if that fixed the leak without causing the Check Engine. I'll know more tomorrow.

Replaced the VTEC solenoid gasket(s). No more leak. No Check Engine light, at least so far....

Still had to pay the $142 for the labor... Hence, "stealership"...

why'd you have them do it if they're the 'stealership'? it's not a hard job to do.

Because I'm standing out in the shop with the Service Manager and the mechanic, asking them about it, and watching the VTEC Solenoid as it leaks the new oil they just put in out. It was a split decision I made on the spot to have them do it. At least I opted to do just the gaskets... And yes, I could have done it myself but at that moment, since they had the car already, I figured I'd let them have the hassle. And they were still working on it when I left that evening, so....

Nope, the part was around $312 or 342 something and labor was $142. I was charged the same labor for the $12 gasket. But nonetheless, NO leaking and NO Check Engine light.
