Default Used Accord

Hey guys, I'm looking at getting a used '98 EX-V6 Coupe, and was wondering if there is any type of problems or anything in particular I should look for when looking at the car. The car has 110k on it btw.

TIA.

Trans problems,Front engine mount gos bad,egr ports clog, wheel bearing problems, driver seat belt buckles go bad(covered under warranty),Ignition rebuild recall(covered under warranty).

The trans is the biggest problem usually covered till 100k you are over its about 15% off all v6 trans fail.I would go for the 4 banger manual personally. The transmissions are not cheap or plan on rebuilding it if you start having problems. Also stay away from trans flushing just stick with drain and fills on the trans.

All in all a nice car.Not a lot of aftermarket parts for the v6.

How bad is the transmission problem? Is it as bad as they 97-01 automatic prelude transmissions? Also, was this for all years, or just the '98. Thanks.

I don't know how bad the prelude problem was, but essentially the 6th gen accord tranny problem consists of slipping, usually slowly before failure. It's not like it just gives up one day and you're screwed. So at least if you buy it, make sure it doesn't slip at all. If it doesn't, make sure to maintain the fluid to a tee and you might be ok. I think 98-99 transmission problems were similar. The 00-02 problems were covered by warranty or something. Not sure on that.

00-01 have 7ry warranty... 98-99, 02 are not covered (but some dealers cover part of the replacement cost)

change your tranny fluid with HONDA ATF often, and never ever get a powerflush.

The tans problems on the V6 are common (and on the Acura TL and CL) I'd check into the warranty situation before I'd buy. Also driving the car check for unuasual long shifts or holding of a gear. The I4 5spd, like mine is much easier to maintain.

Personally I wouldn't get the V6 AT, I had a 98 v6 AT and I felt the tranny going at around 98k so I sold it. Don't get me wrong they're great cars but chances of you getting a bum tranny are pretty high since alot of them have this tranny problem. Either way, if you go with one make sure it's tranny fluid was only DRAINED/FILLED, AND NEVER POWER FLUSHED. That will kill any life left in the tranny. Good Luck.
