HELP! My Car Died!
I was driving in the terrible weather today and i was almost to my dad's house and i hit a puddle on a 1 lane road and my car shut off! it wouldnt start again. i tired about 20 times and nothin happened. it just wont turn over.
my dad suggested to me that its jus wet wires (spark plug wires). i even dried them off and tried to start it again, it just wont turn over.
i had my brother look at the engine bay while i started it, and he said he heard a clicking noise coming from the distributor cap. the car sounds like its really trying but it wont turn over.
tomarrow im goin to have to call AAA and try to tow it to a place where i can get a tune up. any good places that are recommended?

so if there is water in the cylinders, is there anyway of drying it or is the motor screwed? im getting it looked at tomarrow.
If there is water in there, get a new motor. An interntal combustion cannot compress water, so on the upstroke of a cylinder it's trying to compress something it cant. In the end, it bends your rods as well as a host of other things.
How is your battery? Do your lights turn on? How about the battery conncetions? Are they clean and tight?
How about the starter? It could be bad (wet).
How often do you change oil? It could be a "frozen" engine.
Check your starter relay as well.
Maybe your ignition switch is shot.
Good luck.

well i have pretty good news and bad news. first, the engine isnt screwed. the motor isnt hydrolocked and i dont need to get a new one. it turns out when i hit the puddle, water completely surrounded my air filter and i sucked up water. It just got into the cylinders and didnt really damage anything. They just flushed out the water and got it to start normal once (or so they said, i wasnt present the time they were working on the car).
BUT, i turned it on today and it idled really high, like just under 2k. i gave it a lil gas, and then it started idling like a vacuum hose was unplugged. it would rev up to about 1800 rpms then drop to about 1000, and constantly did that.
then, i took it for a lil test around the lot. turns out this thing is still idling high (about 1500 rpms) i didnt have to even touch the gas, the thing felt like i was halfway on the gas as soon as i put it in a gear. the guy told me that i have to get a new idle control or sumthin.
so now i have to wait til tomarrow when he can get us an estimate on the idle control thing and install it hopefully tomarrow.
im so depressed right now. i miss my car more than anything
