Yes, in that case it would be the sensor. Many auto stores carry temp. sensors for less than the dealer -- no offense.

Glad things are working out for you.

Update- so I put in the new temperature sending unit, and the gauge is doing the same thing it was doing before!!! (goes all the way to red when i plug the connector to the sensor, then falls back to blue again when i unplug it)!

Does this mean the gauge itself is bad? If so is that something I can get separately or do i need the entire gauge cluster?

Thanks again!

Yes, it could be the gauge or there could be a short in the wiring someplace.

You may be able to return the sensor for a refund -- "never used."

Thanks for the reply... any ideas where to look for the short? hate electrical problems!!!

Also, if i were to take my gauge cluster out, is there any way to see if the guage itself is working correctly?

Is there a way to check out the relays first to see if they are defective?

Thanks!

Problem solved!

I bought a used gauge pod off ebay to see if the gauge itself was bad... sure enough, it was. After putting the new one in it works like a charm!!!

I took apart both clusters to swap my speedo over to the new gauge (cluster i bought had about 30K more miles than my car really does).

Works like a champ! So if anyone has these symptoms, give a gauge cluster swap a try... you can always resell the cluster back on Ebay when you are done!
