Update- so I put in the new temperature sending unit, and the gauge is doing the same thing it was doing before!!! (goes all the way to red when i plug the connector to the sensor, then falls back to blue again when i unplug it)!

Does this mean the gauge itself is bad? If so is that something I can get separately or do i need the entire gauge cluster?
