Default radio antenna - 6th generation

Has anyone replaced the antenna in the rear windshield with a regular outside antenna?
When changing to an outside antenna would the coil under the package shelf in the trunk just be eliminated, or is it needed? If it is needed, how would it be connected?
Would the outside antenna give better reception?

Why would you possibly want to have an ugly outside antenna?

I had a guy come in that wanted to put a second antenna behind his dash so his FM transmitter would work better. People have crazy ideas.

the antenna is integrated into your rear window. How can someone rip it out?

I'd stick with the factory antenna. Its so much prettier than that UFO antenna look.

Default radio antenna

I would like to replace the antenna in the glass IF it would improve the reception - mostly on the AM band.
