I have a 95 Honda Accord. The A/C is shot (not sure that matters). I get this wicked chemical smell coming out of the heat vents on the dash. I would have to guess that it smells like anti-freeze?? And it seems to come and go. But when it comes it sticks around for a while. My temperature guage is fine so I don't see how I could have a leak in my radiator.

Any ideas out there?

 

My only guess is it could be a small coolent leak in your heater core. But if that were it, I'd think you'd only smell it when you switched the temp control to hot. When the control is on cold it takes from the outside air (or air in the car if it's on recirculate). Does the smell get worse if you turn the temp control to hot?

 

I have a similar problem in my '94 Accord. It's usually only when I first turn the A/C on, before it gets cold. It really stinks but the smell goes away after a minute. Is there some sort of filter for the '94-'97 Accords that possibly needs replacement?
