Default Help me identify this car

Hey guys,
I've been lurking for a while here, reading up on the threads and getting some knowledge from you guys. In about 10 days I'm getting a 96 Accord from my grandfather. He's had it for 10 years, and obviously it's pretty "gently used" It's got less than 150,000 km (93,000 miles) on it, and it's pretty much like new.

The problem is, I'm not near the car right now, and I have no way to identify exactly what model it is, the poor guy hasn't really been able to find out for me either. I have the VIN, and I've been looking online for a solid answer with mixed results, but I'm not sure whether this thing is an EX or an LX, or whether it is a VTEC engine either.

If anyone has a better idea than I do, or access to CarFax or something, the VIN is: 1HGCD5639TA810064.
Any input would help.

Thanks!

I believe only the EX models we're VTEC. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Correct... EX = VTEC.

I believe leather = EX as well.

Moonroofs were standard on EX's (I believe) but there are a few DX's and LX's running around with them.

Hopefully that will narrow it down...

Also, what about the exhaust? If it's a single pipe, it's a DX or LX. If it's a double pipe, it's an EX or V6 (only available with an Auto).

Unfortunately I can't tell you about the tailpipes either, can't remember whether it had two.

I'm starting to lean toward that it's not a VTEC though, which is a shame, as I also could've used those extra 15 ponies.

What benefit does VTEC give you exactly though? A more efficient output at higher RPMs once the system kicks in?

VIN indicates that it's a 4 door LX model.

'96 4dr LX is a great ride for what it is. Don't wory about the pokey performance. If you want to beef it up a little, and intake/header/exhaust will do you fine. That, or if you really don't like not having VTEC, H22a's are a pretty cost-effective swap these days.

Can someone please tell me what the specs are on the 2.2L vtec motor from the '94-'97 Accords? I haven't been able to find it. :hs:

Carpoint said it has a factory turbo. :rick:

Oh yeah, the 5th Gen EX had turbo. You didn't realize that? That's where the extra 15 hp came from.
